Dunedin Multi-Ethnic Council – Celebrating Diversity

About Us

The Voice of Ethnic Groups in Dunedin

The Dunedin Multi Ethnic Council (DMEC) is a non profit organisation that works to support the multi-ethnic communities in Dunedin.

Since many of our members are migrants, we focus on providing opportunities to get to know people and develop new skills, networks and links with the wider community of Dunedin.

We work to connect people of all cultures in Dunedin. Our members come from all over the world. DMEC has no political or religious affiliations. Funding for our activities comes mainly from community grants.

Our focus is:

  • To promote goodwill, tolerance, and understanding amongst people of diverse cultures in Dunedin.
  • To promote and support cultures, languages and heritage through education, festivals and communication.
  • To promote interaction between multi-ethnic groups in Dunedin.
  • To work with the local and national government for the benefit of multi-ethnic communities and migrants.
