Dunedin Tamil Society

Who are we: 

Dunedin Tamil Society (DTS) is a community organisation to foster understanding, friendship and goodwill among the Tamil speaking community in Dunedin. Built on the three pillars of Tamil Language: Literature (Iyal), Music (Isai) and Drama (Nadagam).

Our Objectives are to provide social support and networking opportunities for new migrants and New Zealanders who are Tamil-speaking people or identify themselves as people of Tamil culture.

To encourage people who are interested in learning, promoting, and celebrating the Tamil language and Tamil Culture, irrespective of their language and/or cultural identity.

Deepavali 2020

Deepavali, the festival of lights, is one of the most auspicious celebrations of Hindus, Tamils and Indians worldwide. Through this event here in Dunedin, we are aiming to connect Tamil communities in the Dunedin and southland areas. It is becoming a tradition of our Dunedin Tamil Society to celebrate this festival every year

Pongal in the Farm 2021

Thai Pongal, the harvest festival, dates back to. More than thousand years and occurs in th month of January(“Thai”). Thai Pongal is one of the most auspicious celebrations for Tamils worldwide. It is celebrated to thank Sun god. This year we celebrated in the farm to give real feel of Pongal function in Dunedin

Pongal in the Parliment 2021

The grand celebrations of the Pongal Festival ( Harvest Festival) hosted by Hon. Minister Michael Wood & Vanushi Walters in collaboration with Aotearoa New Zealand Federation of Tamil Sangam (ANTS) for the first time at the Parliament of New Zealand on 23/2/2021 was truly an epic moment.
